Kevin Schepel

EVP Exploration & Production

An industry veteran of more than 30 years, Mr. Schepel brought his vast knowledge base of experience in Drilling Operations and Formation Evaluation to ZaZa Energy, when he joined the company in June of 2010.

Mr. Schepel is widely regarded among the foremost industry experts in advanced geoscience, engineering, and formation evaluation methodologies for oil and gas exploration, field development, and improved reservoir management. With his finger on the pulse of cutting edge technologies, Mr. Schepel is a pioneer in implementing advanced computer mapping and modeling, 3-D visualization, detailed formation sample/rock analysis, and advanced core and log integration techniques to aid in well evaluations and full-field reservoir characterization. In addition, Mr. Schepel and his team leverage the most recent innovations including the use of conventional core, advanced petrophysics, and microseismic as an aid to characterize features in horizontal reservoirs that directly impact well placement, directional targeting, hydrocarbon volume, and over-all well performance.

He began his career after Graduation from Michigan State University with a 15-year stint at Exxon, working both Domestic and International Research Applications in Houston.

Subsequent to his tenure with Exxon, Mr. Schepel served in various leadership roles as Chief Petrophysicist for BHP Petroleum, and as Vice President of Worldwide Exploitation for Pioneer Natural Resources.

Throughout his career, Mr. Schepel has been involved in numerous industry forums, and is an active member on Committees for AAPG, SPE, and SPWLA, chairing several forums and meetings for each organization. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Independent Oil & Gas Association and the Advisory Council for the Energy Forum Unconventional Resource Series.

Mr. Schepel is licensed by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists.
